All Age Groups
Lee and Cherner (2015) developed a robust rubric for assessing instructional apps. They researched other rubrics that were being used and determined that the small number of rubrics out there had some shortcomings that needed to be addressed. This rubric contains 24-evaluative dimensions aligned to a 5-point Likert Scale, which allows for an adequate number of distinctions to be made about the technology it is assessing. The rubric was examined and critiqued by two groups of experts: faculty members with degrees in relevant fields and public school teachers and graduate students who had at least five years of teaching experience.
After reviewing this rubric and the research that went into it, I believe it is comprehensive for assessing instructional apps. Since this rubric is specific to instructional apps, it's use is limited. If this rubric was not specific to applications and assessed educational technologies as a whole it would be an excellent rubric. The rubric is easy to understand and even though there are 24 dimensions, they are broken up into three domains: (A) Instruction, (B) Design, and (C) Engagement, which makes it easier to follow. It can also be used for all age groups which makes it very versatile.
